As we approach the end of the year, the Arty-Crafty Crescent Club is launching a special community project to transform our happy hub into a vibrant, welcoming space filled with love, creativity, and gratitude. What makes this project truly meaningful is that it’s a reflection of our Muslim faith, which places community at its core. This initiative, involving both women and children, is our way of celebrating togetherness while making our shared space more beautiful.
A Project Rooted in Our Faith
In Islam, community is essential. We are encouraged to support one another, spread kindness, and build bonds that nurture well-being and happiness. The end-of-year decoration project is our contribution to this vision, bringing together families to create a joyful, warm atmosphere in our hub. It’s about giving back to our community, brightening our shared spaces, and uplifting each other in a spirit of unity.
What We will be making
1. Buntings
Colorful, handcrafted buntings will be strung both inside and outside the hub. Each piece will be made by women and children, using fabrics that reflect our unique cultures and personal styles. These buntings will symbolize the ties that connect us as a community—each triangle representing a different story, family, or contribution to the whole.
2. Mosaics
Drawing inspiration from Islamic art’s rich tradition of mosaic work, we will craft stunning, intricate designs using recycled materials. Mosaics have long been a symbol of beauty and order in Muslim culture, with patterns reflecting the infinite and divine. These creations will decorate our walls, serving as a permanent reminder of the creativity and unity within our community.
3. Community Gratitude Tree
At the heart of this project will be our Community Gratitude Tree. Each family will contribute to the tree by adding “leaves” inscribed with messages of gratitude, hope, or blessings. As the tree grows throughout the season, it will become a living testament to the values of thankfulness, reflection, and shared joy. It’s a powerful visual of the gratitude we feel for one another and the blessings in our lives.
4. Other Crafts
In addition to the larger projects, we’ll be creating smaller decorations like painted stones, fabric flowers, and decorative lanterns. These small pieces will be scattered throughout the hub, offering bursts of color and creativity. Each of these contributions will remind us that even small acts of creativity and care can brighten our surroundings and our spirits.
Celebrating Togetherness through Art
This project is about more than just decorating a space—it’s about strengthening the ties that bind us as a community. By coming together to create something beautiful, we are living out the teachings of our faith, which encourages us to build, support, and uplift one another.
We’ll be meeting every Tuesday at Cromwell House Community Hub from 12 pm to 3 pm for women*, and from 3 pm to 5 pm for children, except during half-term and not on Tuesday the 5th of November.
Whether you’re experienced with crafts or just want to lend a hand, there’s a place for you in this project.
Let’s end the year on a high note, creating a space that’s as joyful and welcoming as the people who make up our wonderful community!
*you can join us from 10am at the hub for journaling breakfast, a mindful activity or just have a cup with us discussing the decorating project !
