Yesterday, on Wednesday, March 20th, something extraordinary happened at Cromwell House—it became a haven for celebrating Neurodiversity week, and I found myself at the heart of it, unexpectedly showcasing my artwork.
As the sole artist to exhibit, I was both thrilled and apprehensive about unveiling pieces that are not just creations, but reflections of my inner world.
I presented a diverse array of artworks, ranging from mosaics to doll creation and vibrant textile pieces. Each artwork is a labor of love, a manifestation of my unique perception of the world around me.
One of the most striking aspects of showcasing my art is witnessing people's reactions. It never ceases to amaze me how my creations evoke emotions and spark conversations. The feedback I receive is humbling; it’s as if each compliment chips away at the self-doubt ingrained in my autistic mind.
Despite my inner conviction that my talents are ordinary, others perceive them as extraordinary. They often mention how my art brings them joy and how they can sense pieces of my essence embedded within each creation.
Interestingly, many attendees inquired about purchasing my artwork. While this proposition is flattering, for now, I find myself unable to part with these pieces. Each artwork holds personal significance, representing a moment captured in time or a feeling expressed through color and form.
However, the idea of selling them in the future isn’t entirely off the table; perhaps when I’ve amassed a collection, I'll be more inclined to share them with the world.
What truly excites me are the prospects of collaboration and new projects that emerged from the showcase. Engaging with others who share a passion for creativity fuels my motivation, particularly as someone with ADHD who thrives on stimulation and thrives under the pressure of deadlines.
In hindsight, what started as an unplanned showcase evolved into a celebration of neurodiversity, where art served as the universal language bridging differences and fostering connection.
I am grateful for the opportunity to share a piece of myself with others and to be part of a community that embraces diversity in all its forms. This experience has reinforced my belief in the transformative power of art and the importance of embracing one's unique perspective in a world that thrives on diversity.
