As Wandsworth prepares to shine as the London Borough of Culture 2025, now is the perfect time to connect through creativity—and what better way to do that than by creating a piece of art that represents you without using your face?
That’s exactly what happens in my Faceless Self-Portrait Workshop. It’s not about capturing your facial features; it’s about expressing who you are through simple fabric shapes, threads, and wool. This fun, interactive workshop allows participants to tap into their creative sides in a way that goes beyond traditional portraiture. The best part is that it’s inclusive and suitable for all ages!
What’s the Workshop About?
In each session, participants use fabric scraps, felt, and other materials to create self-portraits, leaving out facial features and focusing on the textures, colors, and symbols that make each person unique. To take it one step further, I provide fabric speech bubbles for everyone to express their thoughts on Wandsworth’s journey to becoming the Borough of Culture 2025. It’s art that connects identity, community, and culture in one engaging activity!
The result? A beautiful blend of creative self-expression that’s different for each person, yet brings everyone together in a shared celebration of culture. What’s even more exciting is that I stitch all these individual portraits together to form a community patchwork—a powerful reflection of Wandsworth’s collective identity.
